TOPIC: Hello from Arizona

Hello from Arizona 08 Jan 2014 10:31 #534

Hello I am a sahm of 3 & 1 grandchild. We live on 3.5 acres in the South Central Sonoran Desert in Arizona. We raise goats(dairy & meat), chickens, ducks, Llama's & a horse. Along with 2 cats & a dog. We garden & are trying to get a small fruit tree orchard going also. We also home school our two younger children.
We haven't lived here quite 3 years yet so it is a work in progress & will be for a while yet.

Hey hey from Southern California:) I have a garden and some chickens! Eggs every day was never a bad idea;)

What kinds of fruit tree are you trying to plant?

We had some apple trees, peach, nectarine & plum trees & the nasty little ground squirels we have here killed all but one peach tree. So I have to replant those & we will be adding lemon, orange, lime & grapefruit trees along with grape vines also.

Nectarines have to be my all-time favorite fruit!! Do you think they will grow here in Southern California? I live in Huntington Beach:)

Nectarines are my favorite stone fruit too. There are a few different varaties & you would have to check the chill hours needed to determine if it would work in your area.

Welcome! I'm in Arizona too (except up in Flagstaff). The growing cycle is much shorter due to the colder weather. Not many fruit trees will grow here either (although I'm planting cherry pits to see how they do).
