I am entering winter number three with my aquaponics set up. I have two(2) 275 gallon food grade totes in my insulated but unheated garage. One tote houses 10 adult beeding pure strain blue tilapia from which I have harvested thousands of pure offspring. The second tote is my grow out tank that currently houses 40 fingerlings that were hatched from my breeders. My challenges have been keeping temperatures up in the winter months and keeping plant diseases and bug infestations down.

That's a really good question, unlike my stupid question above! I missed the fact that you were already breeding your fish:)

I'm assuming you are breeding bugs like black soldier flies or mill worms to feed your fish?

I was thinking something other than the bugs, the one picture looked like brine shrimp maybe.

You can grow duckweed but brine shrimp will only work for the fry.

I was thinking of starting a system this summer when it warms up (I don't have a garage). Can you recommend any books or resources on starting a small system?
