My entry into the Garden give-a-way contest. This is the Crazy H-Bar Veggie and Chicken Ranch; We started this venture in 2008 when we bought this, our first house. I always start with a good plan, then we work the plan.
We draw out garden plan so we know how much room we, then we plant too much.
Starting with the best seeds and seedlings.
The beds have been cooking for over a month to break down all the soil and amendments done over the winter.
Since we don't allow free loaders on the ranch, the girls were put to work fertilizing and turning the boxes.
Things starting moving pretty fast after the plants were put into the ground.
Tomatoes..
And more tomatoes..
We added more zucchini bread plants this year, so glad we did because they were just beautiful.
Just a glimpse of what we have been growing this year;
Fish Peppers
Brandywine tomatoes;
Orange Paruche;
Lemon Drop toms;
Indigo Blue toms,
We also have pickling cukes, cukes, bell peppers, orange, red, and yellow habaneros; cherry, beefsteak, oregon, roma, and superior toms. In addition to yellow squash, sugar pumpkins, and armenian cukes. We have gala, and golden delicious apples, a peach tree, orange tree, ruby red grape fruit. How does our garden pay us back? We canned over 70 jars of bread and butter and dill pickles, 20 jars of B&B pickle relish, 4 qt jars of refrigerator sweet pickles from all the pickles, cucumbers, zucchini, and yellow squash. About 30 jars of peach preserves and 15 jars of peach/raspberry habanero pepper jelly.
Next on our to-do list is 20 qts of canned tomato sauce, but I can't tell you that recipe.
Happy gardening, be careful...it's a jungle out there!
