Hey Matt!

Great experimentation, but I am sorry for your contamination, or what ever it is messing up your mushrooms. :(

Can you do this experiment with any type of edible mushroom? :)

Yeah, it was a real bummer! I think what contaminated it was called forest mold. It's kind of a common mold.

As far as I know you can start mycelium from most mushrooms you get from the grocery store:) I have to say this was a fun little experiment! It would've been nice to get oyster mushrooms out of it but maybe next time!

So is there any way to reclaim your mushrooms once they are contaminated by mold or do you have to start over?

Okay maybe I will try that. The most common mushroom around here is The White Mushroom (Agaricus bisporus), and they are best raw.

So are you going to try this project again? :)

Once your spores are contaminated yes, that is it:( I should have been much cleaner about the whole process.

Go for it, jump right in and see how it goes:)

I want to try it again but I would just have to have time! I may try to grow some on a toilet paper roll with no coffee grounds just to see if it will take. The reason why you want to started on cardboard or paper is because mushroom spores grow on it very well and a lot of other kind of fungus does not. It's a perfect little bed for the mushrooms to get really strong!

Yeah I'll tell you about it if I do it. :)

Oh okay. So the trick is to keep the mushrooms on there until the are tougher and more able to cope with their environment. ;)
That's really cool! Before your videos I would have never thought about doing this. Good work!

I failed so I really don't know what I am doing but I would be it different the next time around.

1. I would sterilize the coffee grounds better.

2. I would put a little coffee grounds in the mycelium and let it grow and spread.

3. I would not open the lid to the containers to film it:)

If you just want to try it out grow some on a roll of toilet paper like in this video.
