Hi HBLovely:)

You normally want to plant them in early spring if your in a cooler climate. If your in a warmer climate late winter is good.

I would also get the soil ready to plant with compost or aged manure at least a few days before you plant.

Make sure you dig your hole double the size of your pot so the roots can spread out and loosen the soil:)

Once you plant it give it LOTS of water for the first time and mulch.

That should do it. I am sure I am missing something but maybe another member can jump in.

They were free I did not want them to just go to waste. Anything extra to be done to help them along?

Not that I know of. Just follow the things I said above and if you like you can make some compost tea to soak them with it:)

I've never really grown raspberry so I can't tell you for sure:( What I can tell you is that these plants are relatively small still so I would let them grow to the desired height then look into pruning them.
