I think I really depends on the type of pumpkin you planet:) There are so many different varieties! What kind did you plant? Do you have any pumpkins starting the grow?

You can get seats for pumpkins like all of these!

Or you can get seeds for huge pumpkins like this!

I planted Dill's Atlantic Giant rated for 300-500 Ib. I believe.

We just trans-planted them from our little containers into our actual garden.

Here is a picture:

Is that you or is that the pumpkin you got seeds for? Ether way great to have you here:)

I have never grown big pumpkins but I have got some awesome sweetie pie pumpkins! Just keep your patch weed free and from what I've read pick the pumpkin you want to grow big and cut all the other ones off the vine. The idea is all the energy will go into the one pumpkin vs all the others.

You can be sure the bigger the pumpkin gets the more water it will need since they have a shallow root system! I would add some compost tea made from rabbit manure (add liquid kelp and fish) if you can get it.

Lastly, I hear when it gets hot you should cover them will something to give them shade.

Hope that helps!

That's just the type of pumpkin the seeds came from.
(not me)

Yeah, I've heard that. Maybe I'll do that for one or two and then try to get some smaller ones.

Pupkins drink so much water.

It doesn't really get that hot here in Canada, maybe 82 F max. I add fruit compost and chicken manure to it. That should help. : )

Thanks.

Once they start getting big I get here they can drink up to 100 gallons of water a day! That is crazy to me:)

I'm sure chicken manure will hit the spot! Yumm!! Ha ha ha!

Yeah, my chickens are nice little poop factories as well:) Ha ha ha! My rabbit is really good too because she will break down sticks, twigs, and whole stocks of corn including the cob into little pellets of fertilizer!

ha ha ha Yeah animals are great, aren't they? We use to have rabbits but they eventually died and we decided not to get any more.
