We moved to this house two years ago. We moved to a smaller block because we were finding it difficult to maintain a larger property due to a busy lifestyle. I am a stay at home Mum but I do volunteer work and we have three daughters so life is wonderfully busy.
The funny thing is that now we are passionate about growing our own veggies and fruit so we are trying to cram more things into a smaller area.
I love this place though and am very happy we moved.
That is a bit of an introduction to the beginnings of our journey with chickens. We have had them before but I don't think we incorporated them into our lifestyle as much as we will this time.
I will document as we go. Please feel very welcome to give us your wisdom and any tips you have :)

The first few photos are my husband and Dad moving a shed to make way for the future chicken coop. We are putting it next to the mulched area as that bit belongs to the two dogs

This is awesome! Did you guys take the shed down or put it up? You guys will be heading into winter in a few months right?

They were taking the shed down. We have another big shed next to that area. Winter starts about June. Tomorrow a chicken coop will be built for inside that area. The chooks will have a run for them made down the side of the shed. The fence is mainly to keep our two dogs away from them.

The chicken house is up! They have a long run behind the shed and I will be making them temporary pens out the front for when I need them in the vegetable garden. We just have to get some chickens now

Awesome! I love it:) Great looking coop you got there. What king of chickens are you looking to get?

I think we are just going to get some "ready to lay" Isa Brown chickens from up the road.
I forgot to mention that our Shire Council has rules about how to set up back-yard chickens. The floor of the pen has to have cement, pavers or crushed limestone. Not completely sure of the reasons but I think we will lay down some more mulch/straw for them.
My children have already worked out names for the chickens so we had better get them soon. We got a bit distracted making a frog pond at the front of the house :)
